Located within the magnificent Alaya Resort Ubud, Petani Restaurant, which means “farmer” in Indonesian is where you’ll find the most delectable, sensuous and mouthwatering cuisines that will remain in your memory and heart for years to come. With dishes inspired by the Palace of the Royal Family of Ubud, Petani at Alaya Resort Ubud anticipates the culinary needs of its guests with a delightful menu featuring flavoursome fares.
With 120 seats, this popular dining venue has joined Ubud’s evolving restaurant scene with its own take on cuisines from around the Indonesian archipelago, Asia and beyond. The menu is essentially driven by island-fresh produce and seasonal specialties, ensuring that diners enjoy some of the best dishes that Bali has to offer. Separate lunch and dinner menus feature tasty dishes and sumptuous desserts. A Petani signature is the chef’s own version of Nasi Raja; a traditional Ubud delicacy – the restaurant’s version of the rijstaffel consisting of yellow rice, smoked chicken, pork curry, crispy prawns, fish satay and fish parcel. Another favourite is the Bebek Bertutu, Ubud’s free-range duck served with lawar vegetables, tomato sambal, sambal matah, sambal bali and steamed rice and the Mixed Grilled Balinese Satay of chicken, beef and seafood served with compressed rice cake, chilli sambal and peanut sauce. While indulging, sit back and relax at this distinctive street-front restaurant with its eclectic decor that brings together vintage and contemporary elements; a unique and cosy look created by Moroccan-born interior decorator Zohra Boukhari. Live music is also available almost every night with uplifting performances by some Bali’s finest musicians – guitar maestro, Balawan, takes to the stage with his magic fingers every Friday. The inspiring sounds of Gus Teja on his traditional flute accompanied by an ensemble of ethnic musicians can also be enjoyed on Wednesday from 7.30pm.
Open daily from 7am till late, Petani is a tribute to the members of Bali’s hardworking farming community, every effort is made to ensure that Petani uses only the freshest organic ingredients direct from local growers so that even rural landowners can benefit from the island’s tourism industry. The ingredients are used to create a refreshing selection of beverages showcasing the range of tropical fruit that is locally available. There are exotic cocktails to ignite the holiday mood as well as pure juices for a healthy boost. Each glass is made to order using the Ruby 200 juicer, a top-of-the-line machine that extracts all the goodness from every piece of fruit. The diverse flavours of the Indonesian archipelago, island-fresh produce and seasonal specialties are also translated into the restaurant’s impressive array of shakes and smoothies, ice blended fruit nectar and spiced syrups, raw juice and other healthy blends. Sip on gourmet tea and coffee that are inspired by local and indigenous flora and fauna of Bali and explore its impressive list of wines and spirits from around the world, as well as virgin coolers, martinis and cocktails.
