Established in 2001, Bali Car Rentals originally had just two other employees, I Wayan Ariada and an administrative aide. The inventory consisted of five cars. As the owner, Nyoman Swasa played multiple roles: he managed and marketed the company. Over the next three years he hired three more employees and in 2006, increased the staff to twelve and the car inventory to nineteen. He also moved the company from his home into an office, while continuing to perform as the marketing manager. Business has boomed over the years and Bali Car Rentals now serves clients both local and abroad, although foreign clients make up about 75% of the business and Asian clients 10%. Locals make up the total and about 30% of the clients are repeat customers. What do they want? The ubiquitous vehicle in Bali: Toyota’s Avanza and Daihatsu’s Xenia. These cars are roomy, comfortable and, also, easily maneuverable. Europeans also tend to choose the Daihatsu Feroza and the Suzuki Katana– mid and small-sized jeeps that sit high above the ground and work well in Bali’s rainy season. Families like the Suzuki APV and Toyota Kijang, large models. To accommodate customer demand, Bali Car Rentals added the Isuzu mini-bus model, the Elf, last year. Bali Car Rentals offers many benefits to customers: full car rental insurance coverage, including all damage waivers, theft/loss of the car or any part of it, with own risk excess only US$30/accident (in case of an accident).
