Nestled on quaint Petitenget Street, the Nutmegs Restaurant at Hu’u Bar is a punchy addition to the Seminyak restaurant scene. A live jazz band plays on Wednesday and Thursday nights and lends a romantic mood to the wild berry cocktails, extensive champagne, fine wine, and cocktail list.
The Nutmegs is a culinary retreat where food is prepared in a manner that is authentic and true to its root. Natural flavors take centre stage, it is proclaimed that peking duck should taste like peking duck and that a stew should taste and resemble a stew. We emphasize natural flavors and go “local” to be international for we believe that our restaurant is the canteen of the world. “Authentic food true to its roots, uncomplicated techniques that leave no room for cover ups and the warmth of Asian hospitality, that is what Nutmegs is all about,” echoes the team.
You may start with the Seared Foie Gras, nestled on caramelized apple tart, petite salade and raspberry vinaigrette, which is a hearty veritable dish that you would surely enjoy.
You are strongly recommended the Pan Seared Lamb Loin with edamame beans, shimeiji mushrooms, tomatoes and rosemary sauce under the main selection. A cut exposes its medium rare interior, obviously to retain its natural flavors and texture. The Baby Pork Ribs with Balinese spices, mixed vegetables, grated coconut and fragrant rice is a good alternative as it is firm to the bite and yet tender enough to sink your teeth into effortlessly. Seafood lovers will be satiated with the Wok Fried Jumbo Prawns with crispy oriental bun, onion, ginger, garlic, coriander leaves and chili crab sauce, a creation, which wets the appetite of even the fussiest.
The signature dessert, Demitasse of Warm Chocolate Cake with orange coulis, brilliantly matched with a scoop of velvety vanilla ice cream is definitely a worthy divine indulgence, its allure stealing the limelight from the rest.
After the meal, you may wish to cross over to the hu’u bar and enjoy the refreshing, Asian inspired Lychee Martini. A must try hu’u Bar signature drink that was after all created by the hu’u bartenders (now known as mixologist) back in 1998 and is now a popular drink the over the world.
The lychee martini swirls in your mouth as you wonder what goes inside this concoction, a must try signature drink “… Hu’u is the perfect place to try the lychee martinis.” – Conde Nast Traveler, 2002.
