Throughout history pearls have always fascinated. As objects of myth and legend the ancients viewed pearls as “nature’s most precious gift”, a philosophy Atlas still believes. As the queen of gems, the pearl is a universal symbol of beauty and value. Of the variety of pearl types, the most valuable is the South Sea pearl, found in the tropical waters of Indonesia, Australia and the Philippines. These pearls are sought after for their exceptional quality and beauty. They are distinguished from all others by their magnificently thick natural coating of nacre resulting in an unequalled lustre which does not only deliver shine, but a complex iridescence that shimmers and shifts almost magically under different light conditions. Unlike their cheaper alternatives, Atlas South Sea Pearls have not been enhanced in any way and are just as nature intended.
In Bali, this world treasure has been well received and adored through the splendid jewellery pieces from Atlas South Sea Pearl. Since its inception in 1992, Atlas has been recognized as one of the world’s leading producers of the famed South Sea pearl. Over the last two years Atlas has enhanced the Bali consumer landscape by bringing this high quality product direct from their farms to the retail environment of Bali. This year Atlas has taken great pleasure in announcing the opening of its fourth retail showroom. The location for this new and exciting showroom is in the vibrant shopping precinct of Ubud. Strategically positioned on Jl Monkey Forest, it is across the road from the playing fields and a stones throw away from the cafes and restaurants on Jl Dewi Sita. Nautical characteristics, complete with in store images of their pearl farms, reflect the environment in which the Atlas pearl is cultured.
Meanwhile, the Seminyak showroom, opened in July 2008, is proving to be a successful venture providing another opportunity to showcase some of Bali’s finest product to an appreciative local and international market. One more showroom is planned to open before the end of the year with plans for another two stores in 2009.
The Atlas South Sea Pearl brand is the realised ideal of an indigenous, affordable, and desirable product. The Atlas brand also represents the company’s dedication to environmentally sustainable practices and socially responsible involvement with communities throughout Indonesia. One of Atlas’s pearling ventures located in the fishing village of Penyabangan in Bali’s north is open to the public. Here visitors gain an insight into the world of pearl cultivation on a working pearl farm which also incorporates a café and jewellery showroom.
