In entering the Nyepi Day on Thursday 7 March 2019, Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport will shut down its entire operation for 24 hours. The airport will be closed starting from Thursday, 7 March 2019 on 6 AM local time to Friday, 8 March 2019 6 AM local time.
“The shut down aims in respect for the Hindu observance of Nyepi.” said Arie Ahsanurrohim, the Legal Section Head on Thursday (28/2/2019).
During the 24-hour shut down, all scheduled airlines have made adjustment by not selling flight tickets from and to Bali.
According to Arie, there are 468 flights that will not operate during the shutdown with 261 of them being domestic flights and the other 207 are serving international flights.
Garuda Indonesia become the airlines that has the most flights which will close its 94 flights to Ngurah Rai during Nyepi, while Lion Air and Indonesia AirAsia are following by 67 and 57 flights
Even though the Airport will not serving scheduled flights and charters, PT Angkasa Pura I (Persero) as the airport manager, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, will still provide their personnel to serve emergency flights such as emergency landing or medical evacuation.
