BMKG Issues High Wave Early Warning Thursday, 23 May 2019
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued high-wave early warnings in a number of waters in Indonesia, including Bali straits on Thursday, 23 May 2019, as posted on the agency’s official website.
“Beware of the high wave potential of two metres and more around southern part of Bali straits, Badung straits, southern part of Lombok straits and southern Bali’s Indian oceans,” as quoted from the website on Thursday (5/23) morning.
According to the Head of Data and Information Division of BMKG Region III Denpasar, Iman Faturahman, Bali waters have a potential of high waves to occur because of the south east wind movement. The wind moves in a relative speed but increases by the end of the day, creates a significant raising in wave which is up to 2 metres or higher especially around the southern part of the island.
Regarding the high wave early warning, the agency informed all relevant parties that serve waterway transportations to stay alarmed and follow the safety precautions. “Therefore, they need to always keep an eye to the recent news and updates from BMKG,” added Iman as reported by Tribun Bali yesterday (5/23).
