Matthew Ricard Woods (24), a tourist from Australia was arrested in Jl. Lingkar Nelayan, Canggu, North Kuta by Kuta police for snatching a woman’s bag. The incident occurred on Wednesday (6/19/2019) with the victim identified as Soraya Dergham (20), a foreigner from Canada.

As reported by Balipost.com, the Head of Kuta Police, AKP Dewa Putu Gede Anom Danujaya said on Thursday (6/27/2019) that one of his team members was in the middle of another crime investigation when he spotted a crowd of people in front of a bar.

“After he checked the scene, there was a snatching. Together with the residents, our member caught the perpetrator,” said Dewa Putra.

The police then took the perpetrator, Matthew, to North Kuta police office. However, the other perpetrator ran away. Together, he and Matthew took away a bag from a Canadian tourist. “The partner is suspected as a foreigner too. We are still conducting a search,” added Dewa Putra.

During his visit in Bali, Matthew stays at a Villa in Umalas, Kerobokan. The police seized a bag with a sum of money with a total of 244K Rupiah and an iPhone X as the evidence. “The motive is still under police investigation,” added Dewa Putra.
