Kuta’s Enchanting Secret
The next time you plan a holiday to Bali, don’t give Kuta a miss because it is here in the heart of iconic Poppies Lane 1 that you’ll find a beautiful and transcendent garden, home to the enchanting Poppies Cottages. This is the place where time has stood still, where the charm and pleasures of days gone by are still very much alive.
Sitting in their own cozy nook and partially hidden behind delightful tropical flora are twenty individual cottages with white washed walls and thatched roofs welcoming you into your own secret escape.
Nothing much has changed since its establishment in 1998; everything is just the way it should be, but painstakingly and lovingly maintained. Service is always at its best and you’ll feel right at home with friendly and professional Balinese staff members who have mostly been with the establishment since it was first opened. Here you will learn that the staff and owner are all Balinese and chances are they have been serving at this fine institution for at least two decades.
The name Poppies Lane was actually taken from Poppies Restaurant. Since 1978, Poppies restaurant is renowned for fresh seafood or tasty Indonesian and international cuisine in a romantic tropical garden setting. Located across the lane from Poppies Cottages 1, the name was given by tourists at that time to reference those looking for the restaurant and later on, the cottages.
Each cottage is identical with white brick walls, a small terrace and a carved wooden Balinese door that leads into a spacious and cozy room. The simple Balinese exterior of each cottage, with its private garden and breakfast terrace, belies the spacious and well thought out rooms within. The interiors are decorated with colourful Indonesian fabrics and include a host of thoughtfully provided conveniences as well as local artefacts and discreet design details. Here you’ll find all the amenities that you would need for a comfortable stay including AC and fan, a flat-screen TV, comfortable beds, sofas, WIFI in all the rooms, a writing desk and chair. Adjoining every room is a hidden garden area that conceals a charming and spacious bathroom featuring a sunken marble bathtub and shower.
Our favourite part of the property is where the swimming pool and bar are located. Concealed in the corner of the beautiful garden among riotous banks of bougainvillea, you’ll find a sheltered retreat set amongst natural rocks and cascades for you to swim, sunbathe, relax and unwind. Steps lead up to a peaceful reading and internet room, where right across sits an intimate pool bar that serves drinks and light bites. Poppies Cottages is truly a unique find, a timeless treasure well worth discovering in an ever-evolving space that will stay in your hearts and minds for years to come.
