As of April 5, 2020, an additional 181 confirmed cases were reported in the past 24 hours, raising the total of confirmed cases of Covid-19 to 2,273, spread across 32 provinces in Indonesia.
“An additional 181 people have confirmed positive, bringing the total to 2,273,” said government spokesman for the handling of the coronavirus Achmad Yurianto at a press conference at Graha BNPB on Sunday (5/4).
The government also stated that 14 patients had recovered, bringing the total number of people recovered to 164 and an additional 7 patients had died, raising the total number of deaths to 198 people.
The number of cases continue to increase in Indonesia, according to Yurianto, because currently there are still many people who are less concerned with the spread of Covid-19.
Yurianto asserted that all people must wear masks when forced to carry out activities outside the home, following World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations.
“Starting today, in accordance with WHO’s recommendations, we are implementing #MasksForAll (#MaskerUntukSemua). Everyone must wear a mask when conducting activities outside the home, “said Yurianto.
He added, “surgical masks and N95 masks should mainly be used by health workers. The general can use cloth/ fabric based masks. It is important (to use masks) because there still may be positive cases without symptoms in our midst.”
Cloth/ fabric masks can be washed using soapy water to maintain cleanliness and effectiveness in preventing the spread of the Covid-19 virus. It is recommended that cloth/ fabric masks are used no longer than 4 hours.
Yurianto also reminded the public to be disciplined in implementing social & physical distancing and to maintain hygiene practices.
