Based on data from the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) on Tuesday (7/4), a total of 879 hotels in Klungkung Regency were forced to close due to the absence of tourists. A total of 439 of the hotels are located around Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan. The remaining 440 hotels are in Nusa Gede.
All tourism accommodation in the Nusa Penida tourism area is now suffering due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Employees of hundreds of hotels and restaurants were forced to be sent home after the Nyepi holiday in March. Owners and operators are at a loss to do anything considering this is a global problem.
In order to take of their (tourism related) properties, most owners mobilized their family members to carry out light maintenance to prevent damage and be ready to return to operation when the situation has improved.
Even though it is not inhabited by many tourists, Nusa Penida especially Lembongan, has adopted a very strict attitude towards all visitors. All visitors are required to report to the village office, undergo an examination at the local health center as well as carry out self-isolation for 14 days. At present, there are only three boat services operating the Lembongan route, allowing local residents to cross the sea.
