The Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) noted that as of July 2020, a total of 52 doctors have died while handling Covid-19 cases according to their records. As of Thursday (9/7) five more doctors had died.

“These are deaths from confirmed cases of Covid-19 reported yesterday and today” IDI Public Relations representative Halik Malik told via text message on Friday (10/7).

The five doctors are Agus Pramono from Sidoarjo, East Java; Sovian Endi from Grobogan, Central Java; Pepriyanto Nugroho from Blitar, East Java; Ahmadi NH from Semarang, Central Java; and Zulkiflie Saleh from Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan.

Halik said all the doctors died while on duty treating patients during the Covid-19 pandemic. The five names additional doctors who have died from handling coronavirus patients raised the total who have died in the line of duty to 52. IDI did not specify the number of doctors with confirmed cases of Covid-19 who have died.

The numbers of doctors falling victim to the coronavirus has continued to fall since the government announced the first confirmed case of Covid-19 in Indonesia in early March.

The lack of personal protective equipment for medical personnel is a problem for medical personnel in treating Covid-19 patients.

Covid-19 cases in Indonesia now total 72,347 people. A total of 3,469 patients have died and 33,529 cases have been declared cured.
