The cost of the Covid-19 rapid test provided by PT Kimia Farma (SOE) has been criticized for being too expensive. Now, following directives from the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes), pricing been set at Rp 150 thousand per test.
PT Kimia Farma Production & Supply Chain Director Andi Prazos also revealed that the company would reduce the cost of the rapid test below Rp 100,000.
“Hopefully we can sell under Rp 100,000 to help the public” he said in a virtual presentation, last week.
The state-owned pharmaceutical company will reduce costs after the development of facilities to produce rapid tests in Denpasar, Bali are complete.
PT Kimia Farma plans on launching an inexpensive version of the rapid test in mid-August, in hopes of helping the public with affordable testing costs.
“Mid-August we can launch an inexpensive rapid test that can also help the community. As it is now a lifestyle requirement, you will be able to get a Covid rapid test cheaply” he said.
Managing Director of Kimia Farma Verdi Budidarmo said that the company has provided rapid test services at airports and ferry ports according to the rates set by the government.
“Current rapid testing is underway and we are supporting 13 airports including Cengkareng, and others. We follow what the government recommends. Testing is being carried out at 13 airports and 5 ferry crossings” he added.
