President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) issued a Presidential Instruction (Number 6 of 2020) concerning Enhancement of Discipline and Law Enforcement of Health Protocols for the Prevention and Control of Covid-19.
In the Presidential Instruction signed on Tuesday August 4th, Jokowi also involved the Indonesian National Army (TNI) in handling the Covid-19 pandemic.
The TNI has been deployed into the community to aid in preventing the increasingly massive spread of the coronavirus.
In this regulation, the TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, has been asked to provide support to regional leaders, including governors, regents and mayors, by deploying TNI personnel to secure health protocols implemented in the community.
“Mobilizing the strength of the TNI to supervise the implementation of health protocols in the community” stated one of the Presidential Instruction (Inpres) points.
The TNI was also asked to collaborate with the National Police and other agencies to jointly manage and control the implementation of health protocols in the community.
“Carrying out community development to participate in efforts to prevent and control the Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19)” reads another provision in the presidential instruction.
The Home Affairs Minister has also been tasked with providing technical guidance and assistance for local administration in issuing rules related to Covid-19.
The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Head, also the national Covid-19 mitigation task force chairman, has been urged to conduct monitoring and evaluate the imposition of related sanctions.
