The Garcia Ubud is a new 5 star boutique resort located in the charming Lodtunduh area, just minutes from the cultural attractions, shopping and dining options of Ubud. Here you will find a lifestyle resort which blends Bali’s heritage with modern luxury and a touch of contemporary elegance.
While enjoying a fresh welcome drink, we settled in and enjoyed a nice view at the Ksuna Restaurant, overlooking lush greenery including rice fields that blend into the resort. Menus are available but a scannable QR code is provided to view menus on your own personal device. Nice touch.
Ksuna Restaurant’s farm to table concept is evident here. Much of Ksuna’s fresh produce comes from gardens located on the hotel property. The large open kitchen also provides a show for diners and the high pitched roof and unique lighting provide a pleasant atmosphere.
“Casual” fine dining is how one might describe the vibe and offerings at Ksuna. Asian and international classics as well as comfort food offerings cover the range of tastes. Nothing over the top. Service is warm and gracious. The following are some of the dishes we enjoyed during our stay:
The Crispy Thai Chili Fish was a hit – presented on a unique copper plate; perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. Another recommendation is the Bebek Ksuna – one of Ksuna’s signature local dishes. A half duck is crispy fried and served in a traditional stone bowl accompanied by “engseban” vegetables, kemangi basil, spicy sambal and steamed red rice. A treat for duck lovers. For seafood lovers, the Catch of the Day Fish Fillet A La Meunière (barramundi on this day), with potato confit and seasonal organic vegetables was perfectly cooked and a treat to devour. The Organic Chicken also hit the spot – a tender chicken breast stuffed with mushrooms, accompanied by tortellini stuffed with leg confit served with fresh vegetables. Even the Kids menu offers a nice selection here. The Fish and Chips was so good that the adults were forced to help finish it. For dessert, we tried the Malang Green Apple and Kintamani Tangerine. Both of these were light and creatively presented.
Breakfast is served in unique fashion at Ksuna. Salads, fruits and baskets of fresh-baked bread and pastries paired with homemade jams are brought around. You can then order your “main” such as a variety of egg dishes, Indonesian favorites as well as classic pancakes and waffles. The smoked bacon (thin/ perfectly cooked) may have been the best I have come across on this island thus far.
Insider tip: Ksuna Restaurant is currently offering 25% off all food items on their menu.
The Garcia is made up of a collection of well-appointed guestrooms and private pool villas. Our private pool villa was the perfect mix of classic Bali indoor and outdoor villa style with tasteful details and modern luxury. Wicker throughout the room provides a homey touch while a chandelier high on the ceiling and well-appointed lighting fixtures added to the elegance. Fresh orchids in the room added the perfect touch to our little paradise. Bedding and mattress are both extremely comfortable and a nice new baby cot was provided for our toddler.
Our villa opened up onto a small pool overlooking adjacent rice fields. The thoughtful touches continue here with a lounger positioned just above the water level to enjoy the views.
The semi-outdoor bathroom makes use of the space perfectly. A tropical outdoor shower space accompanies a deep soaker tub for those wishing to indulge. A full range of Sensatia Botanicals products won me over as a long-time supporter of this Bali brand of natural products. To cap it off, a 2nd orchid was thoughtfully placed to create that perfect suasana (vibe).
Another unique touch is the selection of 6 different loose-leaf teas available for guest enjoyment. We only tried 2 types but look forward to returning and trying more. The Garcia wins further marks by providing high definition cable on their smart tv’s in rooms; separating themselves from many other properties in this regard.
Insider tip: Until September 30, The Garcia Ubud is offering an upgrade from a Deluxe Room priced at just IDR 1,100,000 nett/ night to a Garcia Suite Pool Access or 1 Bedroom Pool Villa which are valued up to IDR 4,500,000 nett/ night. This is worth taking advantage of.
The resort area is surrounded by rice fields, but another unique touch is the addition of several seating areas alongside fire pits adjacent to subak (traditional rice field irrigation systems) that the resort has creatively incorporated into the design. The working rice fields allow guests to get a taste of rural life in this part of Bali.
Additional resort amenities include a small yet adequate gym with free weights, mats and cardio machines to get a good workout in behind a waterfall overlooking the main pool. The main pool is equipped with daybeds and lotion and a unique shower feature for guests to enjoy. Another pool area is available to guests with Pool Access Suites.
A shuttle service to Ubud is available several times a day and the Garcia offers use of a luxury van.
Bali is known for impeccable, friendly service and this is no different at The Garcia. The staff all have great attitudes and clearly enjoy their jobs; not hard to understand given the pleasant environment they work in.
A Spa & Wellness Center and 2nd more upscale restaurant named Camellie are close to completion and will only add to the impressive offerings here.
Covid-19 Safety Measures

To reduce touch points and promote contactless services, The Garcia has upgraded many systems including enhanced check-in as well as use of QR codes to access restaurant menus.
