The vaccine developed by the pharmaceutical company Moderna revealed preliminary results in clinical trials that are close to 95 percent effectiveness. Moderna recently revealed the price of its Covid-19 vaccine.
Quoted from the Reuters website, a single dose of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine is worth US$ 25 to $37 or IDR 354,000 to IDR 524,000.
Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel said the selling price of the vaccine will depend on the quantity ordered.
“Therefore, the price of our vaccine is almost the same as the flu vaccine, which sells for between US $10 and $50 or around Rp 141,000 to Rp 708,000,” he said.
On Monday (16/11), a European Union official involved in the talks, said that the European Commission wanted to enter into a contract to supply millions of doses of the Moderna vaccine candidate, with its cost below US$ 25 per dose.
“Nothing has been signed yet, but we are close to reaching a contract with the EU Commission. We want to distribute (the vaccine) to Europe and are in talks,” Bancel told WamS. He added that it was only a “matter of days” until the contract was ready to be signed.
Moderna claims that their experimental vaccine is 94.5% effective at preventing Covid-19, based on preliminary data from final stage clinical trials.
Moderna is the second vaccine developer to report unexpected results in addition to the vaccine produced by Pfizer and its partner BioNTech.
The European Union has been in discussions with Moderna regarding their experimental Covid-19 vaccine since July this year.
