The Java-Bali Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) which have been running for almost a month, ends today. As a replacement, the government will implement a Micro-Scale PPKM starting Tuesday (9/2).
Regarding the Micro-Scale PPKM mechanism, the Covid-19 Task Force explained that the government would focus on forming posts at the village level to assist public health centers (Puskesmas) in handling Covid-19 patients in isolation.
“Based on a decision from our president, starting on February 9, a Micro-Scale PPKM will be implemented,” said Alexander Kaliaga Ginting, head of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Friday (5/2).
Ginting said that so far, supervision of Covid-19 patients in isolation is still minimal. He hopes that supervision of independently isolated patients will be tighter due to posts located at the village level during the Micro Scale PPKM.
In addition, Ginting stated that the burden on hospitals could also be reduced. According to Ginting, treatment of Covid-19 patients starting at the health centers can minimize the worsening of symptoms experienced by those exposed to Covid-19.
“This means that they go to the hospital in phase 2 (moderate symptoms) and phase 3 (serious).
The Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, outlined the micro-scale PPKM details on Monday (1/2). He said that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) wanted the mobility restrictions to be changed to be more micro or with a narrower scope.
The Java-Bali PPKM has been implemented since January 11-25, 2021 and was been extended until 8 February. However, Jokowi considered the PPKM ineffective in reducing Covid-19 cases in the country.
