The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Uno plans to reopen the Bali tourism sector for foreign tourists in June or July.

However, this will occur only if the domestic conditions related to Covid-19 are under control and the management of the pandemic in Indonesia has received a good response from various countries.

“This is quoting the President. If all the figures are conducive, if all obey (protocols) and we get reciprocity from sahabat (friendly) countries, hopefully in June-July we can start (receiving) foreign tourists,” he said at a national meeting on Thursday (18/3).

Sandiaga said some time before that he and President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) reviewed vaccination (plans) in Bali to pursue the target of 2.5 million people being vaccinated before July.

“Bali as the backbone destination has been assigned more than 2 – 2.5 million vaccines before July,” said Sandiaga.

He stated the hope that with strict discipline regarding health protocols and strengthened contact tracing and testing, vaccinations will reduce Covid-19 transmission and confidence levels in Bali will increase again.

“According to his (Jokowi) direction, domestic tourism can return to Bali and we are starting the trial period,” said Sandiaga.

Previously, President Jokowi reviewed the implementation of Covid-19 vaccinations for community service officers, religious and traditional leaders, and seniors, at Puri Ubud, Gianyar Regency in Bali on Tuesday (16/3).

During the review, the President was accompanied by Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno, Bali Governor I Wayan Koster, and Gianyar Regent I Made Mahayastra.

Minister Sandiaga Uno and the Governor of Bali have established three green zones for tourist destinations in Bali, namely Ubud, Sanur and Nusa Dua. These green zone refer to tourist destinations that are free of Covid-19.

It is hoped that this will make both domestic and foreign tourists, feel safe while on holiday in Bali. On the other hand, the tourism industry and the people of Bali will be safe and comfortable also because the tourists who come are free of Covid-19.
