Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin announced 6 million Sinovac vaccine ingredients arrived at Soekarno Hatta International Airport on Sunday (18/4).

Budi said that the amount is part of the planned 140 million bulk vaccine ingredients from the Chinese company, which will be imported to Indonesia during 2021. Budi said that of the 6 million vaccine ingredients imported, 20 million vaccines could be produced.

“In the next month, we will receive an additional 20 million doses from PT Biofarma production from the arrival of these ingredients,” Budi said in a press conference on Sunday (18/4).

Furthermore, Budi said that his party are targeting vaccination for the elderly before Lebaran in May. He admitted that compared to health workers, it is challenging to vaccinate the elderly.

He said the vaccination program targeting the elderly is planned to reduce potential outbreaks during the Eid celebration. The thought behind it is that he has doubts about restricting 100 the mobility of residents 100% during Eid.

“We don’t know if we really can restrict mobility 100% during Eid-al Fitr, but my guess is that there will definitely be leaks,” Budi said in a webinar on Sunday (18/4).

Budi announced that the number of people who had been vaccinated as of Sunday (18/4) had reached 16.5 million versus the target of 181.5 million. This number consists of 10.8 million vaccines for phase 1 and 9 million vaccinations for the second stage.

Budi said that his party will continue to increase the daily vaccination target to 1 million in July-August. This effort is undertaken to pursue the vaccination target which is planned for completion by the end of 2021.

The Covid-19 Task Force recorded an increase in Covid-19 cases on Sunday (18/4) of 4,585, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 1,604,348. Of these, 1,455,065 were declared recovered as well as 43,424 deaths.
