The National Commission For Post Vaccination (Komnas KIPI) is still investigating the case of a 22-year-old young man, Trio Fauqi Virdaus, who died a day after being injected with the AstraZeneca vaccine in Jakarta. Komnas KIPI has not been able to determine whether Trio’s death was related to the injection of the vaccine, but medical reports indicate that Trio had a blood clot.
“So yes, it is difficult to determine if the death is due to the AstraZeneca vaccine. A blood clot has been reported. Blood clots can be in the brain, lungs, stomach and legs. In the legs and stomach usually does not cause death,” Chairman of Komnas KIPI Prof. Hindra Irawan Satari said when contacted on Monday (10/5).
“Usually the cause of death is in the brain and in the lungs. In his lungs there are no signs of tightness. In the brain (symptoms are) seizures and dizziness. However, there are also symptoms of dizziness from the AstraZeneca (vaccine). His friends and family said that seizures did not occur,” he added.
Hindra explained that Trio was vaccinated with AstraZeneca on Wednesday (5/5). After being vaccinated, he felt the symptoms of Adverse events following immunization (AEFI) namely fever, nausea, and dizziness. However, Trio did not call the AEFI handling number listed on the vaccination document and decided to go to his regular doctor.
The doctor apparently did not practice that day, so Trio did not seek treatment. On the following afternoon, Thursday (6/5), Trio was declared dead upon arrival at Astra Nugraha Hospital, East Jakarta. Based on reports, Trio allegedly died due to blood clots.
Blood clotting is a disruption in the coagulation process. Usually, blood will start to clot after an injury to prevent a person from experiencing large amounts of blood loss.
However, certain conditions can affect your blood’s ability to clot properly, which can result in heavy or prolonged bleeding. These include liver disease, vitamin K deficiency, as well as the side effects from certain drugs.
There have been several cases of blood clots due to the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine in Europe. However, Hindra stressed that he could not confirm whether Trio died because of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
Trio must have an autopsy carried out to find out quickly and accurately whether his death was related to the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
However, according to Hindra, this is difficult to do, so his team will continue to carry out investigations to determine the relationship between Trio’s death and the AstraZeneca vaccine.
In the UK and Europe, autopsies are carried out related to cases of death. Causes are determined. If we perform an autopsy, we can also find out, but maybe the family doesn’t want to. So because of the situation is left us, and it has to be approved, it is difficult to determine whether this death was due to the AstraZeneca vaccine, or if there were other diseases involved.
“For other diseases, we have to follow up and we have specialist doctors, whether there is a history of heart disease, asthma, etc. which can be associated with the death of the deceased yesterday. We also see the emergency room doctor and we will interview again. So it is currently not conclusive. The evidence is not strong enough,” he continued.
Regarding the deceased’s condition and history of illness, Trio’s brother Viki said that his younger brother did not have a history of serious illness. Including never having been infected with Covid-19.
“As far as I know, he didn’t have a history of serious illness and my mother said that when he left for work he was in good health. The results of examinations showed no history (Covid-19); he was healthy and had just finished participating in a bird contest on the previous Sunday,” said Viki when contacted separately.
“But he often works overtime, because he works in the field,” he added. Trio worked as an outsourced worker at Pegadaian.
