The government is considering locking down all Ministries/Agencies based in Jakarta as a result of a spike in COVID-19 cases.
Minister of the State Apparatus of Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform (PAN-RB) Tjahjo Kumolo said the proposal came from a number of Ministries/Agencies after an increase of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in their respective offices.
“There are proposals (of lockdowns) for several ministries, institutions, agencies because increased confirmed cases of staff in the office. This is despite the likelihood that the confirmed cases originate from outside the office environment (perhaps the family/environment where they hang out),” said Tjahjo.
Despite this, Tjahjo stated that for now his ministry has left the decision to the leadership of each particular agency.
“But decision for the Ministry to work at the office or at home is up to respective Ministry leadership to determine the situation and conditions in their respective Agencies and Regional Governments. But the important thing is that the State Civil Apparatus must remain productive and stay healthy,” he explained.
Previously, the Ministry/Agency decision to lock down was implemented by the Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini after 11 employees in his office were exposed to COVID-19. There are four work rooms that have been sterilized with disinfectants and employees working in them have been asked to work from home.
Jakarta’s current condition is not good and the soaring hospital occupancy rate is one of the key indicators. An update regarding the actual condition of Jakarta was made by the Jakarta Police Chief Inspector General Fadil Imran confirming that Covid-19 cases are currently increasing.
“Tell the public that Jakarta is not doing well,” said Inspector General Fadil Imran to reporters at Jakarta Police Headquarters in Jakarta on Thursday (17/6/2021).
